Thursday was Holiday's first Thanksgiving. We had it all planned out...spending the day at my Mom's where there would be great food, cozy company, and a Mac and Cheese cook-off. But, as is life, things don't always go as planned. My mom was offered the trip of a lifetime in Germany which she couldn't pass up so Thanksgiving at her home was cancelled last minute. Which if you know me and my Type A, Monica Geller personality, I had a bit of a meltdown.
Fortunately, we made the best out of the situation and spent the afternoon with my dad's side of the family. He made us "sunshine" drinks which consisted of freshly squeezed satsuma juice and prosecco and we ate turducken, oyster dressing, and the famous baked macaroni and cheese. Holiday had a blast being passed from one relative to the next while I had the chance to sit back and catch up with aunts, uncles and grandparents.
After eating our weight in the traditional Thanksgiving fare, we ended the day at my sister's home, where she had baked a pumpkin pie. The gang curled up on the couch watching Lord of the Rings, flipping through old high school yearbooks and reminiscing. Though the day didn't go as planned, it was full of family, love, and thankfulness...just as it should be.
